Where Prest keeps things

Prest keeps its things in two folders:

Folder macOS Windows Linux
Prest’s own ~/Library/Application Support/Prest %LOCALAPPDATA%\Prest ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share}/Prest
PresTools’ shared folder ~/Library/Application Support/PresTools %LOCALAPPDATA%\PresTools ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share}/PresTools

Settings → Folders in Prest shows three of them, each with a button that opens it (Show in Finder on macOS, Show in Explorer on Windows, Open folder on Linux): PresTools (PresTools’ shared folder), Its history (PresTools’ folder in Prest’s own), and Prest Server (Prest Server’s folder in Prest’s own).

Inside Holds
host.json Prest’s settings for this computer: the look, the audio device, the metronome’s outputs, volume, and last on or off, the count-in, and your MIDI ports’ options
recent.json The list of recent projects and songs
Recovery/ Copies of projects with unsaved changes; see Recovery
Prest Server/ Prest Server’s settings and catalog for Prest, in prest.pb
PresTools/ PresTools’ task history, logs, and temporary files for Prest
WebView2/ On Windows only, the data of the window’s web view

Prest Server and PresTools keep these apart from what they keep for REAPER or Ableton Live.

PresTools’ components, models, and environment, with its settings and saved workflows, are installed here once, for every app on the computer that runs PresTools: Prest, and PresTools for REAPER from its next release. PresTools 0.1.0 for REAPER keeps its own in REAPER’s Scripts/PresTools folder and does not share them. See PresTools in Prest.

Prest projects (.prest) and songs are wherever you save them, not in these folders. Stems are written beside the song they came from.

Next: Remove Prest.
