Editor guide

Use Editor to prepare the show. Every change is saved on the host at once and appears on every device.

On a wide screen, Editor shows three panes side by side:

  • Setlists: every setlist, with its number of songs and total length. The one you are editing is marked Live.
  • Active Set: the songs of the selected setlist, in show order, with the number of songs and total length.
  • Songs: the song library, with + Add All Projects, Select, New, and Search songs…. A song shows its length, its tempo, and In set when the selected setlist holds it.

On a phone, Editor shows one pane at a time. Tap a setlist to open it, and use Back and Library to move between the panes. In 0.1.1 the Library button is in the setlist’s pane, so create a setlist first. In Prest and the next release, Setlists has a Library button too.

+ Add All Projects appears in Songs when the show library holds projects the catalog does not have yet. The number in brackets counts them.

  1. Save your work in the host.
  2. Choose + Add All Projects.
  3. Prest Server opens each new project in the host, one after another, reads its song markers, and adds its songs with their names, lengths, and tempos.
  4. Leave the host alone until the last project is open.

If something needs attention, an Import Issues box lists it when the run ends. Choose Dismiss to close it.

Message What it means
Duplicate song «Name» — using the first marker Two song markers have the same name. The first one counts.
Duplicate section «Name» in song «Song» — using the first Two section markers in one song have the same name.
Section «Name» is outside any song A \ section marker lies before the first song marker.
Empty song prefix (S\ with no name) — ignored A marker reads only S\.
Empty section prefix (\ with no name) — ignored A marker reads only \.
Could not open project «Name» — skipped The host did not open the project. In Prest and the next release the host’s reason follows, or that it did not answer in time.
Project «Name» has missing media files — skipped: … In Prest and the next release: the project uses audio files that are not on disk. Its songs are not added.

Choose + Add All Projects again after you fix a project: it adds only what is still missing. In 0.1.1, a project with several songs stays in the count after its songs are added, and choosing + Add All Projects again opens it again, though it adds nothing twice.

Songs are added once per project. If you add song markers to a project after adding it, delete its song in Songs and choose + Add All Projects again.

In REAPER with 0.1.1, a project whose media files are missing makes REAPER stop on a dialog asking for them, and the run waits until you answer it in REAPER. In Live with 0.1.1, also read Prepare the show library: Live’s backup copies are listed as projects.

  1. In Songs, choose New. The Create Song box opens.
  2. Fill in what you need:
    • Project stem: the project the song plays. The list shows the projects in the show library. Choose (No project file) for an entry with nothing to play, such as a talk.
    • Song Name: filled in when you pick a project.
    • Length (seconds) and Tempo (BPM).
    • Notes: a reminder for yourself.
    • Add New Song To Selected Set: On or Off: shown while a setlist is selected.
  3. Choose Save Song.

Add a project with several songs (S\ markers) with + Add All Projects, not with New: in 0.1.1, picking it in Create Song links the whole project as one song, and + Add All Projects then counts it as added.

In Prest and the next release:

  • Create Song also has Key.
  • The list offers only projects the catalog does not have yet. Saving a song linked to such a project opens it in the host and adds its songs as + Add All Projects does. If the project has several songs, each is added under its marker’s name, and the name, tempo, key, and notes you typed are not used. The box says so under the list.
  • Choose the pencil on a song to open Edit Song, change the fields, and choose Save Song.
  • Choose the bin on a song to open Delete Song. Deleting removes the song from the library and from every setlist. The project file is not touched.

In Prest and the next release, Edit Song also has:

  • Key, shown in the Show Info view.
  • Attachments: charts and parts a device can show in place of the lyrics. Choose Add files… and pick PDF, PNG, JPEG, or WebP files. For a song in a project with several songs, choose Add for this song…, or Add for every song in the project… (marked Every song). The name of the file, without its extension, is the attachment’s name, for example Bass. Files are kept in the show library, beside the project, in a folder named after it with Attachments added (Set 1 Attachments), so you can also manage them in Finder or Explorer. Rename and Delete act on the file in that folder.
  • Linking a song to a project the catalog does not have yet opens the project and adds its other songs too. The song keeps its place in every setlist.

Type in Search songs… to filter the library by song name, project, or notes. Clear the field to see every song again.

  • Create: in Setlists, choose New, type a Setlist Name and, if you like, a Date, then choose Save Setlist.
  • Select: tap a setlist to edit it in the middle pane.
  • Rename: on a wide screen, type a new name in the title of the Active Set pane. It is saved when you leave the field.
  • Delete: choose the bin on a setlist, then Delete Setlist. Its songs stay in the library.
  • Add one song: drag it from Songs into the Active Set pane, to the place you want.
  • Add several songs: choose Select, tap the songs, then choose Add with their count, for example Add 3. Cancel leaves without adding.
  • Reorder: drag a song or a setlist by its number.
  • Remove: choose − on a song in the Active Set pane. The song stays in the library.

In Prest and the next release, Reorder in the Setlists and Active Set headers shows up and down buttons on each card, for when dragging is awkward. Choose Done when the order is right.

Tap a song in the Active Set or Songs pane to open it in the host and go to Performance. While the host plays, the song is queued as the next one instead.

In Prest and the next release, a song whose project uses missing media files shows a Missing Media box with the files. REAPER does not open the project. Live opens it, and what the missing files would play is silent.

Next: Run the set in Performance.
